The inspiration for this tutorial Easy DIY Rustic Paperweight comes from a design that just wasn’t working for me. When the project you’re working on hands you lemons, make lemonade – or in this case, paperweights! If you want to skip the backstory and get to making the paperweight, that’s fine, it’s not like I’ll know! So click here, or scroll to the bottom.
I thought I’d be clever and put a fancy top on some Christmas decor I was making. Well surprise, surprise (not really lol) it didn’t look as good as I thought it would! I kept staring at the piece wondering what I could use it for. If you’ve read my previous blogs you can see that this is an all too familiar theme with me!
I put it aside, staring at it every so often, hoping it would just tell me what I should do with it! Once in a while I would pick it up and look at it. It was after I had picked it up for the third time, (okay, it may have been more, I just made that number up!) I placed it on my pile of papers, and that’s when it hit me: It’s a paperweight! But not just any paperweight. A rustic, now I know what to do with all my mismatched handles paperweight!
As you can see, you don’t have do things perfectly to make rustic decor, you just need to think creatively when things don’t go as planned – and trust me, it happens!
Note: If you’re going to make a rustic paperweight, make sure you countersink the screws holding the handle so the screws sit inside the wood, allowing the paperweight to lay flat.
Thanks for stopping in! Have fun creating!
